Description: Discover the exquisite taste of Jean-Paul et Benoit Droin's Chablis Montmains 1er Cru, a classic Chardonnay from one of the most revered producers in Burgundy. With its perfect balance of fruit, minerality, and acidity, this wine is a testament to the brothers' commitment to tradition and quality.

Taste Profile: On the nose, this Chablis exudes aromas of green apple, lemon, and wet stones. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing, with flavours of lemon, grapefruit, and mineral notes, leading to a long and elegant finish. This wine is perfect to drink on its own or to pair with oysters, seafood, or creamy pasta dishes.

History of the Producer: Jean-Paul et Benoit Droin is a family-owned estate that has been producing wines in Chablis since the 17th century. The brothers are the 14th generation of winemakers in the family, and they are renowned for their commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and their meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards.

Where to Enjoy: The Montmains vineyard is located in the heart of the Chablis region, and the grapes used to make this wine are grown on 40-year-old vines. Enjoy a glass of this classic Chardonnay in the company of friends and family, at a special occasion, or on a romantic evening. This wine is sure to impress and delight any wine lover, whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a curious beginner.

The 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains reveals aromas of green apple, mint, white flowers and hazelnut, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered palate with good depth and structure.
The 2019 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains opens in the glass with notes of green orchard fruit, hazelnuts, clear honey, fresh bread, and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, layered, and muscular, with chalky grip and a saline finish, it has turned out very well.
The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains offers up a minty bouquet of lime zest, anise and white flowers, followed by a medium to full-bodied, glossy palate with good tension and cut. It's a chewy, concentrated Montmains that should develop well in bottle.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.
