Donnafugata

Donnafugata is a prestigious wine producer located in the stunning island of Sicily, off the southern coast of Italy. This family-owned winery has a rich history and a deep passion for producing exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of the region.

The name Donnafugata, meaning "fleeing woman" in Italian, is derived from the Greek myth of a woman who found refuge in the Sicilian hills, where the winery is now located. The winery was founded in 1983 by the Rallo family, who have been producing wine in Sicily for five generations. Today, the winery is run by siblings José and Antonio Rallo, who continue to honor their family's tradition of winemaking while also introducing modern techniques and innovation.

Donnafugata is located in the DOCG of Contessa Entellina, in the heart of western Sicily. This region is known for its diverse terroir, with a variety of soils and microclimates that allow for the production of a wide range of grape varieties. The winery also has vineyards in the prestigious appellations of Etna, Pantelleria, and Vittoria, further highlighting the diversity and quality of their wines.

One of Donnafugata's main goals is to showcase the unique characteristics of Sicily through their wines. They strive to capture the essence of the island's terroir in each bottle, using indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola, Catarratto, and Zibibbo. They also experiment with international varieties, such as Chardonnay and Syrah, to create innovative blends that reflect the Sicilian landscape.

The winery's portfolio includes a variety of wines, from fresh and aromatic whites to full-bodied and complex reds. Their flagship wine, Mille e Una Notte, is a powerful and elegant red blend that pays tribute to the Arab influence in Sicily. Another
