Château Fonroque is a renowned wine producer located in the prestigious Saint-Emilion appellation in the Bordeaux region of France. This historic estate has been producing exceptional wines for over two centuries, with a reputation for quality and excellence that has earned it a place among the top wineries in the world.
The estate was first established in the 17th century, but it wasn't until the 19th century that the current château was built, giving the property its distinctive neo-Gothic style. In 1931, Château Fonroque was classified as a Grand Cru Classé, a prestigious designation that is only given to the top wineries in the Saint-Emilion appellation.
Château Fonroque is situated on a unique terroir, with 20 hectares of vineyards that are planted on a combination of limestone and clay soils. The vines are an average of 40 years old, with some dating back over a century, resulting in low yields and concentrated, high-quality grapes. The estate is known for its commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices, with a focus on preserving the natural balance of the ecosystem and producing wines that reflect the terroir.
The winemaking at Château Fonroque is a combination of traditional and modern techniques, with a focus on minimal intervention to allow the grapes to express their full potential. The wines are a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, with each grape contributing to the complexity and structure of the final product. The wines are aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months before being bottled.
Château Fonroque produces two main wines: the Château Fonroque Grand Cru Classé and the Château Fonroque Les Demoiselles, both of which have received critical acclaim and high ratings from top wine critics. The Grand Cru Classé is a full-bodied, elegant red wine with notes
