The Château d'Aiguilhe is a renowned wine producer located in the Côtes de Castillon appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region of France. This historic château has a long and storied history, dating back to the 13th century when it was built as a fortified castle. Today, it is owned by the Comte Stephan von Neipperg family, who have been producing exceptional wines at the estate for over 30 years.
The Côtes de Castillon appellation is situated on the right bank of the Dordogne River, just east of the more famous Saint-Émilion region. This area is known for its clay and limestone soils, which are ideal for producing high-quality Merlot-based wines. The Château d'Aiguilhe estate spans 100 hectares, with 55 hectares planted with vines. The vineyards are carefully tended to by hand, and the estate follows sustainable farming practices to ensure the health of the vines and the environment.
The wines of Château d'Aiguilhe are highly sought after by wine connoisseurs and critics alike. The estate produces two main wines, the Château d'Aiguilhe and the Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, both of which are made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. These wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and balance, reflecting the unique terroir of the Côtes de Castillon. The Château d'Aiguilhe is a full-bodied and opulent wine, with rich flavors of dark fruits, spices, and a hint of minerality. The Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe is a more approachable wine, with softer tannins and a fruit-forward profile.
The Château d'Aiguilhe has received numerous accolades and awards, cementing its reputation as one of the top producers in the Côtes de Castillon.
