Saffredi

Saffredi is a renowned wine producer located in the coastal region of Maremma in Tuscany, Italy. The winery is named after its flagship wine, Saffredi, which has gained a cult-like following among wine enthusiasts around the world. The winery was founded in 1987 by Elisabetta Geppetti and is now run by her son, Luca D'Attoma, who is also the winemaker.

The Maremma region is known for its beautiful coastline, rolling hills, and diverse terroir. It is situated in the southern part of Tuscany and was once considered a lesser-known wine region. Saffredi is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-harvested from the family's 50-acre vineyard, which is located in the heart of Maremma. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level and benefits from the cooling sea breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea. The vineyard's unique microclimate, combined with the clay and limestone soils, provides the perfect conditions for producing high-quality grapes.

The winemaking process at Saffredi is a combination of traditional and modern techniques. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and then the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18-20 months. The result is a full-bodied, complex wine with intense aromas of dark fruits, spices, and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is elegant and well-structured, with silky tannins and a long, lingering finish.
