Maxime Magnon

Maxime Magnon is a small-scale natural wine producer based in the Corbières area of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the far south of France. Magnon, who trained in Burgundy before settling in the region, farms old-vine parcels in the rugged limestone and schist terrains around Fraïsse-des-Corbières. His approach is rooted in organic and biodynamic viticulture, with minimal intervention in the cellar.

Languedoc-Roussillon is one of France's largest wine-producing regions, historically associated with high-volume production, but over recent decades it has become a hotbed for artisan winemakers drawn to its ancient vineyards, diverse soils, and Mediterranean climate. Magnon is among a generation of producers who have focused on expressing specific terroirs in this area, working with indigenous and traditional grape varieties and avoiding additions or heavy handling in the winery. His wines are generally unfined and unfiltered, fermented with native yeasts.

La Bégou is one of his white wines, produced from white varieties grown in the Corbières zone. The name reflects the local Occitan dialect, which Magnon draws on across his range of cuvée names. The wine tends toward freshness and mineral character, qualities less commonly associated with this warm southern region but achievable at the elevations and on the cooler, hillside sites that Magnon selects.
