Joseph Drouhin is a renowned wine producer based in Burgundy, France. The company was founded in 1880 and has been producing high-quality wines for over a century. One of their most famous labels is Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis, a white wine made from Chardonnay grapes grown in the Chablis region.

The Chablis region is located in the northernmost part of Burgundy and is known for its unique terroir. The soil in Chablis is composed of limestone and clay, which gives the wines a distinct minerality and acidity. The cool climate in the region also contributes to the crispness and freshness of the wines.

Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis is made using traditional winemaking techniques. The grapes are handpicked and sorted before being pressed. The juice is then fermented in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature to preserve the delicate aromas and flavors of the wine. The wine is aged on its lees for several months to add complexity and texture.

The resulting wine is a pale yellow color with green highlights. On the nose, it has aromas of citrus, green apple, and white flowers. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing with flavors of lemon, grapefruit, and a hint of minerality. The wine has a long, clean finish and is perfect for pairing with seafood, salads, and light dishes.

Drouhin-Vaudon Chablis is a classic example of the style of wine produced in the Chablis region. It is a wine that showcases the terroir and the grape variety in a pure and unadulterated way. It is a wine that is enjoyed by wine lovers all over the world and is a testament to the skill and expertise of the winemakers at Joseph Drouhin.

An elegant wine. Brilliant colour, with hints of green. Typical Chablis nose, where aromas of citrus (lemon) fern and even salty sensations predominate; it's fresh and crisp with delicious green fruits, citrus and white peach. On the palate: vigorous and lively, but in a soft mode. A lot of finesse and balance.
An elegant wine. The coat is shiny, often tinged with green. The nose, characteristic of Chablis, reveals notes of citrus (lemon), fern as well as iodized nuances. In the mouth: vigor and nervousness, in sweetness. Lots of finesse and balance.

The French Wine region of Burgundy (aka “Bourgogne”) may be small in size, but its influence is huge in the world of vino. The complexity of Burgundy can cast fear into the heart of even a seasoned wine pro, but fear not – the region need only be as complicated as you want it to be. Yes, it is home to some of the most expensive wines in the known universe, but there are also tasty and affordable wines.

Main grapes:

Pinot Noir originated in Burgundy and these vines cover 34% of the region, accounting for 29% of overall wine production. The red grape does extremely well in limestone and clay soil, which helps create their complexity. Pinot Noir wines from Burgundy range in colour from cherry to brick, are light in body, and typically have red fruit and spicy flavours. Gamay is a red grape also grown in Burgundy, but only makes up 10% of the vines.

Chardonnay is the primary grape for white wines in Burgundy, making up 48% of the vines and 68% of production. Chardonnay appreciates Burgundy’s marl soil, which gives it delicate floral, fruit, and mineral aromas and full-bodied flavours. Aligoté is the second white grape, accounting for 6% grown. {Read more about the ancient Aligoté grape in Burgundy.}

The region does produce a sparkling wine called Crémant de Bourgogne. It can be made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Aligoté, Gamay, Sacy, and Melon. Varieties include blanc, blanc de blancs, blanc de noirs, and rosé.
