House Spirits Distillery

House Spirits Distillery is a craft spirits producer based in Portland, Oregon. Founded in the early 2000s, it was among the pioneering small-batch distilleries that helped establish the Pacific Northwest as a serious region for American craft spirits. The distillery is best known as the original producer of Aviation American Gin, a style developed in collaboration with bartender Ryan Magarian.

Aviation American Gin is built around a botanical recipe that deliberately backgrounds juniper — the defining botanical of London Dry gin — in favor of other aromatics including lavender, cardamom, and sarsaparilla. This approach places it in a category sometimes called "New American" or "New Western" gin, which prioritizes balance and cocktail versatility over the piney intensity associated with more traditional gin styles. The result is a softer, more floral spirit that became widely adopted in the bartending community and later gained mainstream visibility after actor Ryan Reynolds became a co-owner of the brand.

House Spirits continues to operate its Portland distillery and produces other spirits beyond gin, though Aviation remains its signature product and the one most widely associated with the distillery's identity.
