Chacra

Chacra is a renowned wine producer located in the Río Negro region of Patagonia, Argentina. This family-owned winery was founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, the grandson of the creator of the famous Super Tuscan wine, Sassicaia. Chacra’s vineyards are situated in the Rio Negro Valley, an area known for its cool climate and ideal terroir for growing high-quality Pinot Noir grapes.

The name “Chacra” is derived from the term for a small piece of land used for farming in the local Mapuche language. This reflects the winery’s commitment to sustainable and organic farming practices, which have been implemented since its inception. Chacra’s vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic, with a focus on preserving the natural ecosystem and producing wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of the terroir.

The cool climate of the Rio Negro Valley, influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, creates the perfect conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes. The combination of warm days and cool nights allows for a slow and even ripening of the grapes, resulting in wines with intense flavors and aromas. The sandy and stony soils also contribute to the complexity and minerality of Chacra’s wines.

Chacra produces three premium Pinot Noir wines: Barda, Cincuenta y Cinco, and Treinta y Dos. Each wine is made from grapes grown in different vineyard plots, showcasing the diversity of the terroir and the winery’s commitment to single-vineyard expressions. Barda is the entry-level wine, with fresh and vibrant flavors of red berries and a touch of spice. Cincuenta y Cinco is a more complex and elegant wine, with layers of fruit, earth, and floral notes. Treinta y Dos is the most full-bodied and intense of the three, with dark fruit flavors and a long, lingering finish.
